Why We Have a Thermal Storage Tank ( Buffer Tank) with our Wood Boiler, Back Boiler ,or Bio-mass Pellet Boiler

Thermal strorage tanks should be installed with any wood burning boiler, this will allow the energy from the wood boiler to be stored in the form of hot water , these super insulated tanks are designed to absorb all of the heat from one firing of the wood boiler , then gradually release that heat over a period of time.
Thermal store allows you to fire your wood boiler up when it meets your schedule, not the houses schedule if you have no thermal storage tank. you will find you will use a lot less fuel as you will not need to fire the boiler as much as if you have not got a thermal tank. ( In Germany regulations will not permit you to install a boiler with out a thermal hot water storage tank) . We would recommend this for the little extra money this cost to install! you will reap 10 fold !
Size of tanks , we at woodmanstore have a wide range of tanks from 300 lt up to 2500 lt , we also have a range of Kombi tanks , this is a tank in a tank, so your domestic hot water is available on demand heated by your wood boiler. Our Thermal storage tanks come with no coil , single coil or twin coil, this will allow you to connect the system to another power source , maybe Solar or Oil heating or both, ideal for the weeks you are away over the cold season, or you do not feel like lighting the fire.

To size the right size tank from your boiler feed, should be min 30lt to 40lt for every 1kW , your boiler produces, so lets say your boiler is 30 kW in total we know the boiler holding tank is 75 lt , your radiator system on a 4 bed detached home has another 70 lts , a easy calculation is 30 kW x 35 lt = 1050lt , a 1000 lt tank will be right for the boiler. You might be restricted by size then look at 2 smaller tanks say 2 x500 lt , or go down to 800 lt tank. but it is important to make these savings keep in the range of the guide. It would be pointless getting a 2500 lt tank for a 30 kW boiler.
I would say to anyone considering a wood boiler , gasifiying , or Pellet boiler, you must allow for a thermal storage tank it will save you thousands of £ , and much hard work lighting and lugging wood to the boiler over the next decade. I have been there and talk from experience.

Biomass Wood boilers for your Home

Firstly when looking at a economical bio-mass wood boiler that is not going to break the bank,  for your home! you must consider what you intend to heat , size of your home, how many radiators , and have you space for a buffer tank (thermal store), existing flue or will you have to  have a new flue installed!  The next most important tip is to look at a boiler that is tested and registered with the (MCS) micro generation Scheme, WARNING!!!!! We market  ATMOS  Wood Gassification boilers, Other make wood boilers "are not tested or part of the MCS, these boilers are basic,  fine for holiday homes and workshops, it is not advisable to install a boiler with out the correct certification. you would be wise to look at the ATMOS range of boilers.  Atmos Pellet Boiler or Atmos Duel function boilers for Logs and pellets


The good news is we now have the The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a government backed scheme to promote the use of renewable heating. For wood boiler and pellet burner installations the the scheme applies to any property and installation that meets the schemes criteria.

For all installations below 45kW this will mean at least:

MCS accredited wood boilers and pellet boilers  (ATMOS boilers are a approved system) ( Atmos Pellet burners)
MCS accredited installations

If your installation was completed after July 2009 then you may be eligible.

The scheme is split into domestic and non domestic properties.

Non domestic properties are community, commercial, charity and government owned properties e.g. hotel, community centre, care home, or where the heating serves more than one property e.g. farm with out buildings.
